u-blox offers first official mass-market GNSS augmentation service to South Korea

PointPerfect, u-blox’s GNSS augmentation service, provides real-time, verified, and scalable high precision positioning solutions to automotive, industrial and consumer applications.

u-blox (SIX:UBXN), a leading global provider of positioning and wireless communication technologies and services, has announced the expansion of its PointPerfect global navigation satellite system (GNSS) augmentation service to the South Korean market as of the 1st of September 2022. It is the first PPP-RTK (Precise Point Positioning, Real-Time Kinematic) high precision positioning solution enabling a broad range of applications to be officially commercialized in the country. The service is accessible via Thingstream, the u-blox IoT service delivery platform, an enterprise-grade cloud interface proven to support billions of messages.

PointPerfect delivers an advanced GNSS augmentation data service designed from the ground up to be ultra-accurate, ultra-reliable, and immediately available. The service enables the fast-growing demand for high precision GNSS solutions including autonomous vehicles such as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), service robots, machinery automation, micro mobility, and other advanced navigation applications. Emerging automotive applications that can also benefit from the service include automated driving (AD) and advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), lane-accurate navigation, and telematics.

“By bringing u-blox PointPerfect GNSS augmentation service to South Korea, we are taking an important step in Asia towards achieving our strategic objective of globalizing our mass-market-focused service,” says Franco de Lorenzo Principal Product Owner, Product Center Services, at u-blox. “It is the first PPP-RTK service commercialized in South Korea and is designed to lower barriers to adoption and to support scaled-up high precision positioning solutions by reducing time-to-market,” he adds. For example, automotive manufacturers in South Korea can now advance their automated driving applications in-country for use in South Korea as well as in the United States and in Europe.

Delivered via mobile internet or L-band satellite signals, PointPerfect broadcasts on a continental scale to any number of end devices, delivering decimeter-level positioning accuracy and convergence of just seconds. Furthermore, adopting the industry-driven SPARTN messaging format combined with the lightweight and secure MQTT IoT delivery protocol results in a real-time, bandwidth-optimized, cost-efficient solution ideally suited for mass-market applications. PointPerfect also cooperates smoothly with u-blox positioning and connectivity hardware, providing a one-stop-shop solution from chip to cloud.
