Maxim’s TRUSTECH 2018 Demo Showcases Mobile Payments Via PIN-on-Glass Technology

MUNICH, Germany, and CANNES, France – November 26, 2018 – Designers of mobile and contactless payment systems will experience secure PIN-on-glass payments via a demonstration of a turnkey secure card reader solution at TRUSTECH 2018 from Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM). The demonstration, which also features technologies from Amadis and Quanta Computer, offers an expedient path for design engineers to develop a secure PIN-on-glass payment system with a pre-certified EMV acceptance stack.

PIN-on-glass technology is anticipated to change consumer mobile devices into full-featured point-of-sale (POS) systems capable of securely accepting payment card PINs on a touchscreen. The technology stands to revolutionize retail payments for merchants and financial institutions as it is expected to lower the cost of card acceptance, improve transactional security and increase card-acceptance rates.

EMV is a payment method based upon a technical standard for smart payment cards and for payment terminals and automated teller machines developed by EMVCo, which facilitates worldwide interoperability and acceptance of secure payment transactions. The process for developing, certifying and maintaining an EMV acceptance stack has become increasingly complex over the years because specifications can change as frequently as every six months. The demonstration at Maxim’s TRUSTECH booth combines Amadis software, Quanta Computer hardware and Maxim’s secure microprocessor for an all-in-one Secure Card Reader for PIN (SCRP) solution that accelerates time to market for developers.

PIN-on-Glass Demonstration

Visitors to Maxim’s booth will step into a café, where they can buy a cup of coffee and experience first-hand secure payments through a demonstration featuring:

  • MAX32560 DeepCover® secure microcontroller, the industry’s first secure Arm® Cortex®-M3 flash device with integrated contactless and smartcard interface.
  •  EMV pre-certified, OS- and platform-agnostic payment software stack from Amadis, which saves designers the 12 to 18 months that it would otherwise take to develop and certify their own EMV Level 2 software stack. Amadis is a software development and consulting services company in the secure electronic payment domain.
  • Ready-to-go, customizable SCRP hardware from Quanta Computer, the largest notebook computer ODM company in the world. The hardware runs the Amadis™ software stack and features the MAX32560.

Commentary

“Maxim has partnered with Amadis and Quanta Computer to showcase a complete, production-ready SCRP device,” said Don Loomis, vice president, Micros, Security & Software Business Unit, at Maxim Integrated.
