2018 CES: New Smart and Connected Home Devices Start with Intel Inside

Among the areas where data has the power to transform our daily lives the most: the rise of the smart home. During CES, Intel and its partners announced new products that can connect, change and improve our lives to make them more convenient and enjoyable.

Analysts predict that by 2020, the global market for smart home technology will reach $100 billion1 and the average home will have more than 35 connected devices.2 But with the rapid proliferation of connected devices and experiences, it’s no longer enough to simply be connected. Today, consumers expect their connections to be fast, reliable and secure. Intel is uniquely positioned to connect these dots, providing the hardware, software and powerful data connectivity required for a truly smart home.

Here are four new smart home products and innovations from CES 2018:

Faster Wi-Fi – Intel announced new 802.11ax chipsets for mainstream home routers and gateways that will result in faster, smoother content streaming, online gaming, video calls and more. 802.11ax is the newest IEEE standard for Wi-Fi and is designed to meet the ever-increasing demands on Wi-Fi in our connected world.

Achieving the Optimal User Experience With 802.11AX

Speedier, More Secure Wi-Fi Routers – D-Link* announced a new AC2600 Wi-Fi Routerpowered by McAfee* and based on Intel’s connected home technology. The solution includes the Intel® Home Wi-Fi Chipset WAV500 Series that delivers robust Wi-Fi connectivity to numerous connected devices at the same time. Additionally, the Blue Cave Wi-Fi router from ASUS*, equipped with the Intel Home Wi-Fi Chipset WAV500 Series, combines powerful Wi-Fi and complete network security with a cool, modern design that begs to be noticed.

Smart Speakers – JD DingDong Play, a smart assistant launched by JD.com* and powered by Intel technology, is the first Chinese large-display smart assistant. The advanced flagship product features an Intel Atom® processor to provide robust computing power and enable new advanced capabilities, such as facial recognition on the device.

Voice Services on the PC – PCs with Amazon* Alexa – from  Acer*, ASUS*, HP* and Lenovo* – provide hands-free productivity, entertainment and smart home control. Intel is improving the Alexa for PC experience by offering support for hands-free voice control; Intel® Smart Sound Technology for crisp, rich audio; and Intel® Wake on Voice to ensure the PC is ready to hear the “wake” word and start responding.

From devices to the data center and every point in between, Intel is collaborating with leaders in the industry to unleash a new era of smart and connected home experiences for consumers – which starts with Intel inside.
