NXP Enables OrCam Revolutionary Wearable Personal Assistant

NXP i.MX 7 series provides secure and power-efficient processing for wearables with artificial intelligence capabilities

NXP Semiconductors (NASDAQ:NXPI), today announced that NXP’s i.MX 7 series applications processor enables OrCam’s revolutionary wearable personal assistant product.

Introduced at CES 2016, OrCam-MyMe, an open development platform for wearables with artificial intelligence capabilities, continuously processes visual and audio signals to create an “augmented attention” experience that enables context-based applications. The device aims to improve human wellness, by acting as a “personal assistant” to its users with potential development of applications such as real-time profiling of people, tracking eating and fitness activities, monitoring facial expressions and summarizing daily habits.

The exceptional performance, together with the power efficiency features of the i.MX 7 series processor, provides the potential for innovative, security and long battery life in wearable computing and Internet of Things (IoT) end product applications. The i.MX 7Dual processor was chosen by OrCam based on these features to power their new revolutionary wearable personal assistant device, MyMe.

“The i.MX 7Dual processor implements a heterogeneous multicore architecture with the ARM® Cortex®-A7 core used for deep learning processing and the Cortex®-M4 core for audio processing, helping us achieve the small form factor and most power-efficient wearable device,” said Professor Shashua, co-founder of OrCam. “Developing with i.MX 7Dual was an easy decision based on our previous experience with the i.MX processor portfolio.”

“NXP is proud to collaborate with OrCam to introduce innovative and revolutionary products to the market,” said Shmuel Barkan, joint general manager and director of sales and marketing for NXP Israel. “OrCam-MyMe creates a new segment of wearables with significant potential for new applications that will drive better experiences for consumers.”

The NXP i.MX 7 series is the latest generation of power efficient and full-featured applications processors from the successful and broadly deployed i.MX platform. Based on the Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 cores, i.MX 7 series operates up to 1 GHz for Cortex-A7 and up to 200 MHz for Cortex-M4. The Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 achieve processor core efficiency levels of 100 μW /MHz and 70 μW /MHz respectively. Moreover, the new low-power state retention (LPSR) mode significantly contributes to the power efficiency. Learn more.
