Moneta product family leverages breakthrough CBRAM technology to achieve 50-100 times lower power in read and write operations
SUNNYVALE, CA – February , 2016 – Adesto Technologies (NADAQ: IOTS), a leading provider of application-specific, ultra-low power non-volatile memory products, today introduced a new solution for the non-volatile memory needs of battery-operated and energy harvesting electronics. The Moneta family continues Adesto’s leadership in designing next-generation memory products uniquely suited to connected devices, including Internet of Things, wearable, medical, and industrial products.
Moneta is a discrete, ultra-low power memory solution, designed to reduce overall system energy use in connected devices – some of which will need to operate for years without a battery change. With the ability to perform read and write operations at 50-100x lower power than competitive solutions, the new memory allows manufacturers unprecedented freedom of design. Moneta memory can extend battery life and/or allow designers the flexibility to use smaller batteries to power their systems. Moneta’s ultra-low power requirements can also enable IoT nodes being developed for battery-free operation, using energy harvested from the environment for operation.
Moneta chips can also withstand medical sterilization processes, making them a natural match for smart medical devices.
“The hardware landscape is changing quickly,” said Narbeh Derhacobian, chief executive officer of Adesto. “Off the-shelf memory products were appropriate for the smartphone and PC markets, but they cannot satisfy the requirements of a new world of connected things. Unless we can dramatically reduce power consumption, the cost of changing batteries will prevent the IoT from becoming a reality. At Adesto, we are focused on this emerging market, and Moneta demonstrates our ability to execute and deliver next-generation products to meet its requirements.”
The Moneta family leverages Adesto’s revolutionary Conductive Bridging RAM (CBRAM) technology, which affords ultra-low power consumption without sacrificing speed or performance. Adesto is the first company to successfully commercialize a resistive RAM technology, having shipped millions of production parts since its introduction.
“These products were designed to meet the specific needs we see emerging in the IoT and other connected devices,” said Gideon Intrater, CTO of Adesto. “We’re focused on providing solutions that benefit the complete system, primarily through low power consumption, ease of integration, and smart features to reduce energy use. We’ll continue to optimize our technology for the specific needs of our customers.”
“Low-power non-volatile memory that can be easily integrated into devices is an imperative for many IoT systems,” said David Kanter, an analyst with the Linley Group and Microprocessor Report. “Flash technology consumes too much power for energy-harvesting and coin-cell battery IoT applications. The vision of millions of battery-operated devices communicating on the edge of the Internet will not be feasible unless power consumption is optimized.”
Samples of Adesto’s Moneta products are available now. The family includes a range of four densities: 32Kbit, 64Kbit, 128Kbit, and 256Kbit devices.
