OSLO, Norway, February , 2016 – Thin Film Electronics ASA (“Thinfilm”) (OSE: THIN.OL; OTCQX: TFECY), a global leader in printed electronics and smart systems, today announced that it received a 5-figure unit order for NFC SpeedTap™ tags from a leading global FMCG (fast moving consumer goods) brand. The client is working closely with Thinfilm on conversion and product application initiatives, and discussions for future field trials are underway. The total sales volume of the client is several billion units annually.
Including this purchase, Thinfilm has now received pilot orders for its NFC Solutions products from companies spanning several targeted verticals, including wine and spirits, specialty foods, pharmaceutical packaging, tobacco, and medical devices. The Company expects NFC-enabled products featuring Thinfilm’sOpenSense™ technology to reach the market in H1 2016.

The order for NFC SpeedTap follows several important milestones achieved by Thinfilm since December:
- The first deliveries of NFC OpenSense tags to lead customers for conversion and application to bottles and medical devices
- A commercial partnership with Jones Packaging Inc., to integrate NFC OpenSense technology into pharmaceutical packaging and establish key manufacturing processes for production on Jones’ high speed lines
- A case study published by leading medical device manufacturer, Ypsomed, that referenced Thinfilm’s NFC OpenSense offering as a lead adherence-improvement technology in its YpsoMate® Smart autoinjector pen
- A global alliance with Tata Consultancy Services to create the “Next Experience in Retail” through a powerful combination of Thinfilm’s NFC technology and Tata’s comprehensive portfolio of retail solutions
- A grant of EUR 472,312 (approx. USD 511,000) from the European Commission to fund the “TagItSmart” project, through which Thinfilm will partner with Unilever, Siemens, and others to create the world’s first “Internet of Things” (IoT) platform featuring open-source architecture
